Newton seafood dinner with hui ping and her friends. One of them is a korean attached to her company.

Korean girls are pretty loyal to their boyfriend i observed. They trust their boyfriend. Or rather she does.

Went to town to meet cper for ktv but it turn out to be a flop plan. Head to Big Splash's chill out place to drink with hui ping and co.

Settle some home problems and since there is time, i went for a soccer with cpers.

Anyway cab drivers nowadays just have too much business. They refuse to take customers. Not for a single time but quite frequently. Saw that kind of scenario for a couple of times. So.. Please don complaint that no business. You ALL ARE SO STUCK UP.

ICANN approves the broad expansion of top level domains on the 26th of June. This simply means we can have our own domain names after yourself or your surnames! Which means, kristen.low might direct you to my current blog.

It might cost you a few hundred dollars though to set the top level domain up. Imagine having domains of your family? www.web.lee or i.love.sex. It seems kind of weird to have these extensions but it will bring in more variation to the internet naming committee.

Given that Google is already biased against some domain extensions (Google dropped .info names a month ago) and trillions of dollars have been spent advertising businesses connected to current TLDs, many of the new TLDs will be fighting an uphill battle from both a search relevancy standpoint and a mindshare standpoint.

How might the marketplace react to an increase in the number of competing domain extensions?

This will likely increase the .com premium for domain names (and local GTLD premium for .de, .co.uk, etc.) as more TLDs lead to more confusion in the marketplace, which leads consumers back to the default
It might provide a cap the price that some generic names without businesses trade at. As noted by a person who commentedon this Domain Name Wire post, "Why would disney spend millions on Resorts.com when they can get their own extension for MUCH MUCH less and just go with Resorts.disney."
I suspect .org names will still remain strong because so many organizations already use them and most non-profits will not be able to justify spending 6 figures on a domain extension.
The .net domain name might suffer a bit, while some of the less meaningful TLDs (.info, .biz) will sharply drop in value
Decent - but not great - .com names (like 3 or 4 word domains without much exact match search volume) might lose some of their value. I suspect even more of a drop for lower end .net and .org names.

What new extensions will do well?

A few new generics (.web and .blog) might get some traction, but most will fail. Even if .com names keep increasing at 7% a year, there is a lot of certainty on going with the established standard, and a lot of risk in going with something brand new. Who knows if an extension might eventually go away after you spent years building a brand on it?
The new TLDs will create a great opportunity for branded community websites built around memorable ideas and causes, but the backers need to be good at public relations to gain meaningful awareness.
Some of the new TLDs will buy sponsors (like when Demand Media partnered with Lance Armstrong on Livestrong.com) to gain awareness, while others will gain mindshare by making hosting and other paid for services free and easy.

But in my opinion, the most powerful of the new names will be the new Geo's. names like .paris, .nyc .berlin. These extensions will be desirable and will prosper.

A lot of people in the domain industry are freaking out. But the reality is, every market needs expansion. If it doesn't expand it stagnates.

The domain industry seem to think that joe from just down the street is going to go out and buy his own extension. Thats just not going to happen. All the valuable extensions will be eaten up buy the guys at the top. No doubt guys like Schilling and Schwartz saw this coming a mile back and have got their applications in to ICANN already. Some extensions will go to market. Some extensions will be held back for private use.

I fear for the fact that the internet address system will get more messy and hard to control. No one knows what is going to happen as spammers get a bigger piece of the pie. Not to mention hackers. Black hats...

The official domains of ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, and IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority were hijacked earlier today, by the NetDevilz Turkish hacking group which also hijacked Photobucket’s domain on the 18th of June. Zone-H mirrored the defacements, some of which still remain active for the time being :

The ICANN and IANA websites were defaced earlier today by a Turkish group called “NetDevilz”. ICANN is responsible for the global coordination of the Internet’s system of unique identifiers. These include domain names, as well as the addresses used in a variety of Internet protocols. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is responsible for the global coordination of the DNS Root, IP addressing, and other Internet protocol resources.

NetDevilz left the following message on all of the domains :

“You think that you control the domains but you don’t! Everybody knows wrong. We control the domains including ICANN! Don’t you believe us? haha :) (Lovable Turkish hackers group)”

The following domains were hijacked, and some of them still return the defaced page - icann.net; icann.com; iana-servers.com; internetassignednumbersauthority.com; iana.com.

The hackers are once again redirecting the visitors to Atspace.com, 82.197.131.106 in particular, the ISP that they used in the Photobucket’s DNS hijacking. And while Photobucket hasn’t issued an official statement on the DNS hijack, Atspace.com did so last week, a copy of which you can find here.

The NetDevilz hacking group seems to be taking advantage of a very effective approach when hijacking domain names, and while they declined to respond to an email sent by Zone-H on how they did it, cross-site scripting or cross-site request forgery vulnerability speculations are already starting to take place.

One thing’s for sure though, if the ICANN and IANA can lose control of their domains, anyone can.

I've receive my desktop redemption letter today when i got back home. 2 days of duty just ain't that fun. Been in DOC and the duty quite "xiong".

Can't say too much about work stuff online. If i say, the nation will be at stake! Just kidding.

I can't access friendster for god knows why. Everyone is able to get in but not me. Why?

I applied for emergency leave and it went through. So i will have time to visit grandpa and redeem my desktop tml.

For a very kind soul like me, i offered to help my junior to do her FYP cause no one in her team is doing what they should. I still doubt i will be of any help for i had long forgotten alot of things.

But, it never hurts to try. =D

The weather is so cooling now and i slept for quite a long time.

I need cool weather to work. Cool weather to sleep. I don't mind moving to weather-cool countries.

Had plans with family to go ECP for some workout and family bonding but it rained.

A check with the weather station shows changi area to be having thunder storms. Not quite pleasant for any outings.

Today is sunday.. 22th of june. I read Azel's blog and she still thinks about us sometimes. While packing her stuff, she ran across our stuffs, the stuff i bought her. Thinking back, it does make me sad. The sour and heavy feeling started to come back. We were so perfect back then but she had to go away for studies. Somewhere not within my reach. She is such a smart girl with all the qualities that i would want in a girl. My worries for her has now been erased when i know how well she is doing now in her studies and by travelling around europe, she is one happy girl who has her dream come true. I wish her all the best in everything she do. Truely.

I have no belief in any particular religion but i do belive in one higher being. God. I'm a free thinker but still i look in HIS direction. I hate to say this but God has planned everything for us. I used to believe that everything is within our control and we choose our path. We fight for what we want but to a certain extend, because we are still the smallest figure in this entire vast universe.

If she had stayed in Singapore, would things not turn out this way?

If I had understand her of what she wants, would we not turn out this way?

If we had never started, we might be better off being good friends

But if we never started, I would never have felt the happiest times of my life.

Though she changed me from A to B, for the better, she pushed me back to hell after what i could not understand her doings.

So many what ifs.. there are too mani path for us to choose from and its so hard to choose the right path. But what we don't realised is, no matter what path we chose, they have the possiblity to be the best route of your life.

Everything ends with a reason. She is one i love dearly. She is now one happy girl with a good future ahead of her with a partner who i belive will treat her much better than i can.

I have no idea whats up with the topic but it has no link.

Had a rather disappointing night at Double O's. Not that the guys are not fun but cause i have trouble feeling the fun already. They are one crazy bunch when it comes to drinking and messing around!

I'm getting pretty bland nowadays. I guess it felt more like those tags like "fun", "clubbing", "Crazy", "uncontrolled excessive drinking", "drunk", "high life" is slowly slipping away from my life.

I can't believe it either.

I guess i have to find other "fun" stuff to occupy myself.

I came home to find the mio box sitting on my bed. Had it configured and vola! i'm creating this post on singnet! Starhub disappoints me. Oh well..
